Thread starter troyb Start date Oct 6, I will first start off by saying I have converted it with a Grease Car system but I will discuss that later. The car must be started and shut down on diesel. About three weeks ago the car shut off dead on me. My first thought was to change the fuel filter.

It cranked and cranked and cranked and after a good bit, it started up. I was doing some work on the peanut system the night before and thought maybe I had air in the lines. It started fine the next two - three times after work. Later that night, it died again. It would shut off on idle and would not allow the car to go above 3K RPM with out surging and trying to cut out.

When I would switch to Peanut system, it ran fine and would not cut out or shut off. Unfortunately, you have to do a diesel purge to shut the engine down, and that's when it would shut off. So that pointed to the diesel fuel supply and nothing to do with the peanut fuel. It lead me to believe there was fuel starvation issues. If I would get it running, before I would shut it off I would hit the gas pedal and seemed to start ok the next time.

Finally it was getting bad and I took it to a mechanic. He diagnosed the following: When cranking, fuel pressure was only about 1 PSI. Im told PSI is normal Once running, it was creating a vacuum and sucking the fuel through the motor. We ordered a fuel pump that is located in the diesel tank and I installed it myself since it is relatively easy.

Just stalled out and would just crank and crank to no avail. Today I did a few test of my own to see if I could diagnose it. First, I bypassed the entire peanut system to eliminate it out of the equation. Second, I pulled the line coming from the tank and checked flow I put a fuel gauge on it too, read nothing.

The flow seemed steady but no real pressure. I pulled after the fuel filter before the HPFP and just about the same results before the filter. The fuel filter in your VW Jetta should be replaced every 20, to 30, miles to avoid it clogging up over time.
